Launch monitor positioning - what I learned the hard way
Made every mistake possible with my SkyTrak placement. Here's what I learned:
Mistake #1: Too close to the ball Thought closer = better readings. Wrong. Most monitors need 8+ inches.
Mistake #2: Not level Even a small tilt throws off all readings. Buy a proper tripod or make a platform.
Mistake #3: Reflective surfaces My garage floor epoxy was reflecting and confusing the camera. Added a dark mat underneath.
Mistake #4: Backlight issues Had a window behind my hitting area. The changing light throughout the day caused inconsistent readings.
Mistake #5: Moving the monitor Kept bumping it slightly when setting up. Now I have marks on the floor for exact placement.
The fix that made the biggest difference: Created a dedicated "home position" for everything and never move it.
