Question 1

What hitting mat thickness is best for a golf simulator?

Accepted Answer

Hitting mats 1.5-2 inches thick provide the best balance of realistic feel and joint protection. Thinner mats may cause wrist and elbow strain over time. Premium mats often feature multi-layer construction with shock-absorbing foam bases.

Question 2

What's the difference between nylon and polyethylene turf?

Accepted Answer

Nylon turf is more durable and provides a firmer feel similar to tight fairway lies. Polyethylene offers a softer feel closer to lush rough. Many premium mats combine both materials with nylon hitting strips and poly surrounds for the most realistic experience.

Question 3

How big should my golf hitting mat be?

Accepted Answer

For a full simulator setup, mats 4x5 feet or larger accommodate your stance and ball position comfortably. Larger mats (5x5 or 5x6) allow for various shot types and stance adjustments. Ensure the mat extends far enough behind the ball for your back foot placement.
