Question 1

What room size do I need for a golf launch monitor?

Accepted Answer

Most launch monitors require a minimum of 10 feet of ball flight distance. Rear-facing radar units like Garmin R10 need 6-8 feet behind the ball, while overhead units like Uneekor need adequate ceiling height (9+ feet recommended). Camera-based monitors typically need less depth than radar-based systems.

Question 2

What's the difference between radar and camera-based launch monitors?

Accepted Answer

Radar-based launch monitors (like Trackman and FlightScope) use Doppler radar to track ball and club data, requiring more space but offering excellent outdoor accuracy. Camera-based systems (like Uneekor and Foresight) use high-speed cameras and work better indoors with less space requirements. Hybrid systems combine both technologies for maximum accuracy.

Question 3

How accurate are consumer-grade launch monitors?

Accepted Answer

Modern consumer launch monitors like Garmin R10 and FlightScope Mevo+ offer accuracy within 1-2% for ball speed and carry distance compared to professional units. Premium home units like Uneekor EYE XO and Foresight GCQuad match or exceed professional standards with accuracy within 0.5% for most metrics.

Question 4

Can I use a launch monitor outdoors?

Accepted Answer

Yes, many launch monitors work outdoors including Garmin R10, FlightScope Mevo+, Rapsodo MLM2PRO, and all Trackman units. Camera-based indoor units like Uneekor typically don't work well outdoors due to lighting conditions. Check the 'Indoor/Outdoor' specification for each monitor.
